Ayurveda

“Ayu” means LIFE and “Veda” means SCIENCE.  Ayurveda comprises the “science of life”.

Ayurveda is a wholistic lifestyle system that originated in India dating back to more than 5000 years.

Ayurveda emphasizes vibrant health and prevention of illness through mindful observation of daily routine to create a pure and healthy lifestyle.  It includes cleansing practices, meditation, yoga, diet, massage + healing therapies, and the use of herbs and nutritional remedies.

One of the keys of Ayurveda is to first establish ones personal essential ‘constitution’ or DOSHA, in order to customize nutritional, medicinal and lifestyle recommendations appropriate to the individual.  According to Ayurveda, we are made up of a particular balance of the five elements of nature – space, air, fire, water, earth.  Our unique balance of these elements is called our dosha.  The three ayurvedic doshas are: VATA, PITTA and KAPHA.

On your first visit we determine your PRAKRITI, which is your own unique balance of these doshas – your permanent essence.

Next we look at what is currently going on, where there may be imbalances.   A state of imbalanced dosha is called VIKRITI.

Then we work together to design a wellness regime to re-establish a balance that is right for you.  Typically this addresses lifestyle recommendations such as daily routine, dietary considerations, activity and mindfulness.  Ideally, you will follow up with your practitioner as a health coach to fine tune your lifestyle regime to maintain long term vitality and balance.

In this way, ayurveda is wholistic – caring for your body, mind, emotions and spirit as a whole – to heal, purify and maintain health.
